Bad weather halts Dan Lenard, ready to restart from zero in his record attempt
The adverse weather conditions encountered last night, which exceeded the initial forecasts, forced Dan Lenard to temporarily suspend his solo navigation attempt for the 500-mile Guinness World Record. He sought shelter in a protected bay on the island of Hvar, where he had to enter the water to hold the boat due to strong winds, preventing it from drifting away.
Although reaching the symbolic 500-mile mark remains a central goal of the challenge and the Vela Code movement, safety remains the primary principle of all initiatives promoted by the project. In this spirit, Lenard made the decision to pause the journey and wait for safer conditions.
As soon as the weather allows, Dan Lenard will restart from zero, fully complying with the requirements for official record validation and staying true to the values of the Vela Code: autonomy, sustainability, and safety above all.
