Pierre Casiraghi wins British IRC National Championship
Tuesday, 17 June 2025 – Pierre Casiraghi, Vice-President of the Yacht Club de Monaco, has claimed an important win at the helm of Jolt 6 during the British IRC National Championship, held as part of the Royal Thames Yacht Club’s 250th anniversary celebrations.
The result confirms the performance trajectory of the Jolt project led by YCM member Peter Harrison and marks a key milestone in the Club’s build-up to its first-ever participation in the 24th Admiral’s Cup (17 July – 1 August 2025), organised by the Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC) in Cowes. The 2025 edition is expected to be highly competitive, with 14 teams from 13 nations, including the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, and three-time winner the New York Yacht Club.
Two complementary boats for one goal
Flying the Yacht Club de Monaco flag, Team Jolt is entering two boats: the TP52 Jolt 3, helmed by Peter Harrison, and the Carkeek 42 Jolt 6, skippered by Pierre Casiraghi. Both crews have been following a structured preparation programme combining intensive training and high-level regattas.
Tactical racing in challenging Solent conditions
Competing in the IRC 1 class, Jolt 6 prevailed over a strong fleet. “Winning here in Cowes, with typical Solent conditions — shifty 10–18 knot westerlies and strong tides — was a true challenge. Our boat performs well in light airs and made the difference on key tacks,” said Casiraghi, who delivered a remarkable result against seasoned professionals.
A skilled and diverse team
“I want to acknowledge the outstanding work of our team of ten international sailors, including Ben Saxton on tactics, Will Harris on navigation, and Joey Newton and Cole Brauer on trimming. Their precision was decisive. Being the only non-professional helmsman in a fleet with sailors like Dean Barker, an America’s Cup winner, is hugely motivating for me. Racing against them pushes me to give my best.”
Meanwhile, Jolt 3, with Peter Harrison at the helm and Ed Baird on tactics, secured a solid third place in IRC 0 after winning the RORC Easter Challenge in April.
Looking ahead to the Admiral’s Cup
“This victory is a significant step, but the level will be even higher at the Admiral’s Cup. We must continue to train with intensity and determination,” concluded Casiraghi. The team’s focus is to line up in Cowes with flawless coordination, fluid communication, and top-tier performance — ready to face a demanding format that alternates inshore and offshore races and finishes with the Rolex Fastnet Race.
