Global demand slows: Sunseeker to cut 200 jobs
Sunseeker International has announced a significant internal reorganisation that could lead to the redundancy of approximately 200 employees, representing about 10% of its total workforce. The announcement came via a communication to suppliers, in which the company justified the decision based on the changing global economic scenario.
Sunseeker underlined that the decision stems from the need to adapt to new market conditions. According to the statement, the current context is marked by a weakening of global demand, largely driven by political and economic uncertainties. In such a scenario, Sunseeker believes greater operational agility and responsiveness are required — objectives that the ongoing restructuring aims to achieve.
The strategic review of company operations has led to the identification of areas where resources can be reallocated more efficiently. In this perspective, the company is proposing a reorganisation of its support, leadership and management functions, with the aim of consolidating the necessary capabilities to face future challenges and concentrating investment in areas of greatest strategic relevance. The plan, in addition to targeting cost reduction, is designed to support the company’s long-term growth and sustainability.
In line with UK regulations, a formal consultation phase with employees and their representatives will now begin, lasting at least 45 days. The company stated it is fully committed to conducting a transparent and constructive dialogue, ensuring maximum support for affected workers throughout the process.
Sunseeker International CEO, Andrea Frabetti, expressed regret over the decision, stressing that it was not taken lightly. “We are fully aware of the impact this reorganisation will have on the affected employees,” Frabetti said. “Our priority now is to approach the consultation process openly and respectfully, providing as much support as possible. I also want to reassure our colleagues, partners and the local community: Sunseeker remains firmly committed to manufacturing in Poole and Portland. These sites are, and will continue to be, at the heart of our operations as we look to the future.”
The company confirmed its intention to continue fulfilling its global order book and to move forward with the development of its most innovative models, including the new Superyacht range.
The announced downsizing marks a complex moment in Sunseeker’s recent history, but the company reiterates its commitment to investing in build quality and engineering excellence — values that have always defined the brand.
