The second unit of the Swan 128 series has been launched in Pietarsaari at Nautor Swan’s Boatbuilding Technology Centre (BTC). The new maxi yacht, named Raijin - after the Japanese god of thunder and storms - represents a further evolution of the Finnish shipyard’s flagship range.

The Swan 128 project stands at the top of Nautor Swan’s production, combining naval architecture, design and advanced onboard systems. Compared to the first hull, Be Cool, Raijin introduces significant differences in both energy management and interior design.

A key feature is the adoption of Dual Energy Technology, developed in collaboration with Danfoss, enabling optimized management of onboard energy production and consumption. The system is designed to increase autonomy under sail, reducing reliance on diesel generators. While sailing, energy can be generated and stored to power both electric propulsion and onboard systems, with the aim of avoiding generator use at anchor.

The propulsion architecture includes a main electric motor paired with a variable-pitch propeller, two 130 kW Cummins generators and a 30 kW Fischer Panda unit. The system also allows energy regeneration under sail, with a capacity between 30 and 50 kW. The service battery bank, with a capacity of 189 kWh, enables up to 8 hours of fully silent operation with all systems running.

From a design perspective, naval architecture is by German Frers, while exterior design has been developed by Micheletti+Partners. Interiors result from the collaboration between architects Misa Poggi and Antonie Bertherat, together with the in-house team led by Heini Gustafsson.

Compared to the first unit, which featured teak interiors, Raijin adopts a different material palette, with crown-cut oak in a matte finish, light ash panels and natural rattan inserts. Upholstered elements with fine pinstripe patterns and a colour palette inspired by sky tones and ochres contribute to a contemporary onboard atmosphere.

Faithful to the Swan performance cruiser philosophy, the 128 is designed for long ocean passages while remaining competitive on the regatta circuit. The hull is optimized to deliver performance across a wide speed range, maintaining balance and control even at varying heel angles. The twin rudder system ensures precision and responsiveness, while the sail plan is designed to provide power in light winds and efficient handling in more demanding conditions.

Despite her size, the yacht maintains good helm sensitivity and a high level of onboard comfort, also thanks to a moderate heel angle that allows full usability of interior spaces while sailing.

Following the launch, Raijin will be transferred to the Mediterranean, where she is scheduled to make her operational debut at the Rolex Swan Cup in September, as part of the shipyard’s 60th anniversary celebrations.
