Scarlino, Italy (June 3, 2018) - Giangiacomo Serena di Lapigio's G-SPOT along with tactician Michele Ivaldi and crew members Alessandro Franci, Giorgio Tortarolo, Simone Busonero, Saverio Cigliano, Alessandro Frizzarin and Alessandro Saettone are 2018 Scarlino Melges 32 World League Champions, further establishing an official defense of his 2017 circuit title.

Only one final race was completed on Sunday, and yesterday's top four teams that possessed equal points declared an all out war to win.

The last race saw Serena di Lapigio taking the left side of the starting line, with Christian Schwoerer's LA PERICOLOSA taking the opposite side of the course. The left played well for Serena di Lapigio putting strong separation between him and Schwoerer. As the breeze dropped off significantly and the course was shortened, Serena di Lapigio won.

"It was a really tough regatta to win, and I don't think I've ever seen such a situation in the fleet where there has been a potential ten teams in very good position to win going into the final day," said Serena di Lapigio. "We raced well today, always at a high level and so focused. We managed to make all the right choices and take advantage of our opponents when it meant the most."

On the second step of the podium was Schwoerer (Nic Asher, tactician) after finishing second in Race Seven. Vincenzo Onorato's MASCALZONE LATINO (Paul Goodison, tactician) did well to finish the event third overall. The final two, top five positions were captured by Corinthian Champ Martin Rientjes's CAIPIRINHA (Gabrielle Benussi, tactician) and Edoardo Pavesio's FRA MARTINA (Manu Weiller, tactician) respectively.

The third event on the 2018 Melges 32 World League takes place on July 26-28 in Riva del Garda, Italy.

The Melges World League is supported by Helly Hansen, Garmin Marine, North Sails, Toremar, Lavazza, and Melges Europe in collaboration with Club Nautico Scarlino, Rigoni di Asiago, Resort Baia Scarlino and Scarlino Yacht Service.
