Gaeta Grand Prix: Wilma is the winner of the Melges 32 fleet
The second event of the season for the Melges 32 class ends today on the race course of the Gaeta Grand Prix organized by Melges Europe in collaboration with Yacht Club Gaeta and Base Nautica Flavio Gioia.
The third and final day of the Melges World League stage, with the Norwegian Pippa II of Lasse Peterson (Simone Ferrarese calling tactics) in possession of the flag of the provisional leader after yesterday, presents a regatta field with a constant 240 degrees wind between 14 and 16 knots. In the first race, the fastest to shoot from the starting line by choosing the pin is the team of Enfant Terrible of Alberto Rossi (with Vasco Vascotto at tactics) who leads the race from the first to the last meter with Pippa II running into the worst result of their own series (fifth).
In the second race the best is the German team of Wilma led by Fritz Homann (with Nico Celon at the tactics) that with this result takes the lead of the overall ranking. The last and decisive race sees the attack Enfant Terrible but Wilma, closing immediately behind Alberto Rossi's crew, manages to defend the leadership by just one point by winning the stage . On the lowest step of the podium in what is a very short ranking (two points from first and one from second place) the Norwegian Pippa II.
Today the second day of the Melges World League was also disputed for the Melges 20 class in which Dario Levi's Fremito d'Arja (with Stefano Cherin) continues to win with three first places of the day after having already signed the previous Grand Prix in Marina di Scarlino and Porto San Giorgio. If the first place is now only a formality to be sealed tomorrow for Fremito d'Arja, the fight for the podium remains open with Benedetta Iovane's B-Lex (with Branko Brcin), which precedes the Corinthian team of Neodent by Marco Giannini by just one point followed a point away from Kindako by Stefano Visintin.
The Melges 14 were also at the start today, completing the three races of the day. Vanitè XXS by Mario Aquila (pt. 2) takes the lead followed by Traiana Nautica by Luca Angelini and Kermit by Andrea Gemini (pt. 6).
