Only one race was completed on Day 2 of the New York Yacht Club 165th Annual Regatta but Melges IC37 Class sailors recount the afternoon as one of the most memorable days on the water thus far.

The fleet was treated a sporty 20-knot breeze and flat water that sent teams speeding around Narragansett Bay and left ear-to-ear smiles all around.

Members Only syndicate led by Jay Cross, Hannah Swett, and Ben Kinney won the day handily, crediting their strategy to conservative racing in the most breeze they have sailed in yet. “Today a lot of it was just making sure everything went right and smooth,” said skipper Jay Cross. “We’re still trying to figure out boat speed of course [but] downwind we really got the boats ripping and it was fun.”

Team Double Jointed, lead by Andy Fisher and Ray Wulff, also issued high ratings on today’s racing. “We had some relatively flat water so it was a pleasure to race. It was a blast today!”

Teams gathered at the New York Yacht Club - Harbor Court for the renowned Annual Regatta dinner party and swapped stories of their experience on the race course in anticipation for the final day of racing tomorrow.
