Bering Yachts founder and CEO Alexei Mikhailov has released a detailed walkthrough of the first hull of the Bering BC60, the shipyard’s aluminium expedition catamaran. The vessel, already delivered and afloat, marks the practical translation of Bering’s established explorer DNA into a twin-hull format.

At 18.9 meters (60 ft) LOA with an 8.6-meter beam, the BC60 is deliberately proportioned as a displacement explorer rather than a high-speed production catamaran. Constructed entirely in aluminium, she draws a shallow draft of 1.58 metres while retaining the structural robustness and long-range capability associated with Bering’s steel monohulls. Fuel capacity exceeds 13,500 litres, supporting a range of more than 3,500 nautical miles at a comfortable 8-knot cruising speed. Fresh-water capacity is approximately three cubic metres, with grey and black water tanks of 1,500 litres each.

“We took the DNA we already proved on the B72 and B88 — range, reliability, quiet running and the ability to stay self-sufficient for extended periods — and applied it to a catamaran platform,” Mr Mikhailov explained during the walkthrough. “This is not a leisure cat, it is a displacement exploration machine.”

On the main deck, a spacious salon incorporates a full helm station with 360-degree visibility. The professional galley is arranged on both sides and fitted with all necessary equipment for convenient, efficient use. One sponson houses a generous master stateroom where it is possible to walk comfortably around the bed. Panoramic windows bring in abundant light and a strong sense of space. The suite includes a walk-in wardrobe and a comfortable passage leading to a spacious en-suite head with a full shower. The opposite sponson accommodates two guest cabins, each with its own private bathroom. A dedicated crew cabin and laundry and pantry areas are also provided wıth additional refrigeration capacity and extensive storage throughout.

Unusually deep sponsons accommodate a two-level engine room arrangement, providing accessible space for generators, watermakers, sewage treatment and other systems while further isolating noise and vibration from the living areas. The aluminium construction and resulting weight distribution allow a fully enclosed flybridge that functions as a genuine second salon. Equipped with a bar, refrigeration, day head and 360-degree visibility, the space can be configured as a lounge, gym or office.

Onboard comfort receives particular attention. Sound and vibration levels remain low at cruising speed, a point Mr Mikhailov repeatedly highlighted as essential for long passages. Storage volume throughout the vessel supports extended autonomy, while the layout offers flexible cabin configurations suitable for owner-operated use or a small professional crew. Protected running gear and careful attention to structural integrity reinforce the safety-oriented philosophy that underpins the design.
