KM Yachtbuilders is proud to deliver the custom Bestevaer 42 ‘Wetterhoun’; a new addition to the familiar Bestevaer series, which is the perfect combination of innovation, sustainability, and seaworthiness. As one of the smaller models in the Bestevaer line, the Bestevaer 42 offers the characteristic performance, endurance, and comfort of the brand in a compact format.

The Bestevaer 42 ‘Wetterhoun’ builds on the success of the Bestevaer 36 ‘BV3’, which was launched in 2023 and awarded ‘European Yacht of the Year 2024’ with special recognition for sustainability. Designed by Dykstra Naval Architects, this custom Bestevaer 42 combines the sustainable and innovative features of the Bestevaer 36 and the series model Bestevaer 42 and continues the Bestevaer commitment to sustainability.

Sustainable craftsmanship for adventurous sailors

By using 60% recycled aluminium, recycled sails, a paint-free design, and an interior finish with sustainable materials, this is one of the most environmentally friendly yachts of KM Yachtbuilders. This approach makes the Wetterhoun eco-friendly as well as robust. With extra space and optimised features, it provides comfort and performance for sailors who prioritise adventure and sustainability.

From dry out to crossings

The custom Bestevaer 42 ‘Wetterhoun’ has been designed for sailors who want to explore shallow coastal waters, such as the Wadden Sea, and make long crossings too. With its unique centre-board construction and pilothouse, this yacht is ideal for long crossings and for drying out in shallow waters and areas along the Wadden Sea and the British coast.

Owner's choice

The owners of this yacht were impressed by the Bestevaer 36 but wanted more space. In cooperation with the naval architect, the yard enlarged the pilothouse, made the wet room more spacious, and the settees and beds longer. The open-plan concept remains, without compromising on the atmosphere and the feel of the Bestevaer 36 but with more comfort and functionality.

‘Our plan is to discover the Wadden in the coming period and to spend a lot of time drying out’, says the owner. ‘In the spring, we will do a tour of England and are likely to visit the Hebrides and may be even Ireland’.

This custom Bestevaer 42 is a perfect example of the Bestevaer philosophy: a ‘Go-anywhere yacht for Go-anywhere people’, with performance, endurance, and practical design as the starting points.

Stand-out characteristics of the Bestevaer 42 ‘Wetterhoun’:

- Development: Designed by and based on the Bestevaer 36 of Gerard Dijkstra, launched in 2024.

- Dimensions: Compact in format, but big on experience, and an ideal size for adventurous sailors. More spacious layout than the Bestevaer 36.

- Dry out: With the unique centre-board construction, it is ideal for drying out in shallow waters like the Wadden Sea and other coastal areas. The board is ballasted to ensure excellent sailing properties.

- Excellent manoeuvrability: The Bestevaer 42 manoeuvres effortlessly through shallow waters and switches just as easily to longer crossings.

- Sustainability: Built with 60% recycled aluminium, recycled sails, a paint-free system, and finished with sustainable interior materials – one of the most sustainable yachts of KM Yachtbuilders.

- Awards: The Bestevaer 42 follows in the footsteps of the Bestevaer 36, which won the ‘European Yacht of the Year’ award in 2024, with a special mention for sustainability.
