Southern Wind is proud to announce the launch of SW96 “SEATIUS”,  the second unit in the new miniseries of high performance cruiser racers by SWS.
Just before the launch of SW96 SEATIUS, the second unit in the fortunate SW96 miniseries, a rain shower broke the long dry spell that Cape Town has been suffering from: a good omen for all!

The owner and his wife were present and just before breaking a bottle of champagne on the yacht’s bow she gave a moving speech: “After years of dreaming and planning, we are finally launching Seatius. I wish to thank all the lovely people involved for their terrific job; I’ve never seen such a beautiful yacht in all my life. I’m very happy and proud that we will sail her all over the globe.”

SW96#02 differs from her sistership Sorceress in that she has been optimized for very high performance bluewater cruising rather for racing. Seatius’ owners are planning on sailing the world with a relatively shorthanded crew.

Seatius has a deck built in sandwich with foam core and infused carbon skins for light weight and improved sound insulation. Her lightship displacement of 58.500 kg grants excellent light wind speed with a manageable rig size. The hull has full waterlines and straight end diagonals, a wide, low transom and full forward sections, which, together with her lifting keel and twin rudder configuration, make her easy to handle and control in any sea condition and at any speed.

Seatius’ deck hardware has longitudinal jib tracks and hydraulic cars along with other “easy sailing” features. A corridor with minimal level changes connects the maneuvering cockpit to the guest area for easy and safe circulation when cruising. The interior features a three-guest cabin layout with a spacious and enjoyable TV and living area. The owner’s cabin forward, in the quietest area of the yacht, offers wide volumes and ample storage. The crew area aft has a double captain’s cabin, 2 crew cabins and a spacious galley that opens onto the crew mess.
Seatius will now undertake intensive seatrials, before leaving Cape Town helmed by her owner, who will enjoy her first 7000 mile maiden voyage.
