The SW-RP90 AllSmoke ready to rock it at the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup

‘AllSmoke’, the Custom SW-RP90 from the drawing board of Reichel Pugh is to take part in the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup, starting today in Porto Cervo. Two further Southern Wind yachts will be at this prestigious international regatta, the SW72 ‘Far II Kind’ and the SW78 ‘Kiwi’, both from previous mini-series. 

Additionally, ‘Far Blue’, the tenth SW72 and the last build in the series, will join the event as the dedicated “floating headquarters” to the International Maxi Association (IMA). Far Blue will take IMA members and guests out to watch the races, and host an “IMA office” when moored.

AllSmoke’ used the SWS Trophy, which formed a part of the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta, as a work-up for the Maxi Regatta, where she achieved a creditable 3rd overall.    

The SW-RP90 is an innovative, custom built yacht from the Southern Wind Shipyard and many of the revolutionary features from her build have followed through into the current SW105 and SW96 mini-series. 

Much of her deck layout and the entire hydraulic system were custom designed and the interior design and construction has been specifically optimised to save weight. ‘AllSmoke’ raced in June with her existing 3Di Endurance cruising sails, and the owner, who has enjoyed a fair amount of success with his previous SW78 at Rolex Maxi events over the years, made the decision to build a racing inventory to compete at this year’s event.

AllSmoke’ is equipped with a North Sails  3Di Raw race sail inventory and Mark Sadler the sailmaker’s technical expert and on-board tactician for the event, who has been involved in the sail development programme, explained, “The sails are the highest performance sail technology; it is the ultimate no compromise choice, as our clients have come to expect from North 3Di. Following three days commissioning sail trials in Palma, we saw a significant performance gain, especially noting weight reduction aloft.”
