“Siamo italiani e che cavolo…!” (“We’re Italian, what the heck…!”). These words were pronounced exactly one year ago by Francesco Checco Bruni, helmsman of Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli after crossing the finish line that sealed the victory of the Prada Cup with an overwhelming 7-1 win over INEOS Team UK.

A victory achieved after 209 tacks and 155 gybes in perfect match racing style. 260 nautical miles sailed for a total of 8 hours and 51 minutes of Round Robins, semi-finals and finals.

On February 21st, 2021 Luna Rossa entered (for the second time, after the successful AC30 campaign in 2000) sailing history, winning the Challenger Selection Series and the right to challenge Emirates Team New Zealand in the America's Cup match.

The victory of the Prada Cup, in fact, was a very Italian story. As was Italian the vast majority of the team’s partners and  technical suppliers.

February 21st is an important day to celebrate. But our minds are set on another date. Next March 31st: the deadline for the Defender to announce the Match venue and the approximate schedule of the 37th America's Cup.

Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli is ready. Stay tuned.
