The seventeenth edition of Vela & Golf, a traditional event that combines the sport of sailing with golf, ended today. Two days of competition saw golfing yesterday on the Pevero golf green and today, the final day, sailing on a regatta course laid out off Porto Cervo. The team representing the YCCS took the top place on the podium, followed by the Yacht Club de Monaco and the Yacht Club Adriaco.

Yesterday, Saturday May 27th, the six teams participating in the event competed in the golfing part of the competition on the Pevero Golf Club course. The results at the end of the day saw the Yacht Club Adriaco in the lead, followed by the Yacht Club de Monaco and the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda tied for points. Today's sailing determined the winner of the event.

Following the briefing in Piazza Azzurra, the teams headed to the regatta course laid out in the waters off Porto Cervo to compete aboard the YCCS J/70 fleet which just this year has been fitted with electric motors to reduce environmental impact when reaching the race course and returning to port. In total, two races were completed in shifty and unstable breeze which gradually died down over the course of the day from an initial 8 knots. An exceptional spectator of the event was the Palinuro, a training ship used by the Italian Navy.

The Yacht Club Costa Smeralda team, with skipper Germano Scarpa joined by Flavio Grassi, Julio Cesar Ayllon and Paolo Cristallini, won both races today, leading the fleet and crossing the finish line with a fair margin over the rest of the participants. Thanks to these two first places the combined rankings obtained on the golf course and on the water saw the home team win the 2023 edition of Vela & Golf, this team’s third victory in the event after their most recent win in 2021. In second place came the Yacht Club de Monaco team (skipper Roberto Tamburelli) with two second places today, ahead of the Yacht Club Adriaco (skipper Alderico Paganini) which managed to finish third thanks to their excellent results in the golfing part of the event.

The Yacht Club Punta Ala (skipper Alessandro Masini), the Pevero Golf Club (skipper Gian Carlo Coiana) and the Marina Militare (skipper Aurelio De Carolis) finished the event in fourth, fifth and sixth places respectively.

The winner of the event was awarded a portable Garmin InReach Mini 2 satellite device offered by Garmin Marine Italia, technical partner of the event.

The next sporting event on the YCCS calendar is the Giorgio Armani Superyacht Regatta scheduled to be held from June 6-10. This event will be followed by The Nations Trophy (June 19-24).

Heading for the heart of the YCCS sporting season, the next appointment open to all is the YCCS Clean Beach Day, May 31 at the Romazzino beach starting at 9:30. The event is sponsored by the Municipality of Arzachena and supported by the One Ocean Foundation.
