Today, Friday July 14, the Italian Navy School ship Palinuro has arrived at Koper in Slovenia, where it will be moored until July 17.

ITS Palinuro has been conducting her 2017 Training Campaign with the cadets of the 2nd year of the “Morosini”, naval military school, based in Venice. For many of them it’s the very first contact with the sea and life onboard. An experience useful to grow up  and share values such as culture and love for the sea, which are vital for the Italian Navy.

In the timeframe between July and September the ship will hots onboard the cadets of the noncommissioned officer (NCO) normal class, coming from the Italian Navy’s NCO School of Taranto. On board they will learn about navigation and nautical sciences.

The port visit in the slovenian city is part of the show-the-flag diplomacy through which the Italian Navy builds up robust and important relationships with neighbor sea Countries. Furthermore, it’s part of the programme aimed to training cadets to openmindess, dialogue and to developing flexibility and capability of adapting to cultural backgrounds, international relationships and to all the various skills which are specific part of the peculiar background of any proper sailor.

Today, Friday July 14 at 15:00 local time, the Commanding Officer of ITS Palinuro, Commander Giuseppe Valentini, will hold a press conference on board to present the ship and the 2017 Training Campaign.

Anyone being keen about traditional sailing, or just curious about visiting ITS Palinuro, has his chance to get onboard on july the 14th from 4pm to 6 pm.
