SEA Index: IBC Shipyard Becomes the First Affiliated Shipyard in the Americas
IBC Shipyard, a leader in luxury yacht maintenance and repair services in the Caribbean, has announced its affiliation with SEA Index—an association and network dedicated to environmental awareness in the yachting industry, with the goal of reducing CO₂ emissions and increasing transparency in the marine sector. This milestone makes IBC Shipyard the first shipyard in the Americas to obtain SEA Index corporate membership status.
By joining prestigious European shipyards such as Monaco Marine and MB92 La Ciotat, IBC Shipyard’s membership in the SEA Index Superyacht Eco Association underscores its commitment to sustainability transparency, operational excellence, and marine ecosystem conservation. Additionally, IBC will promote the SEA Index initiative and environmental assessment tools among its clients, encouraging the adoption of SEA Index in this key destination.
What is SEA Index?
Launched in 2020 by the Yacht Club de Monaco under the Monaco, Capital of Advanced Yachting initiative, the Superyacht Eco Association (SEA Index) is a non-profit organization created to minimize the environmental impact of yachting and preserve the oceans for future generations.
SEA Index provides yachting stakeholders with impartial tools and innovative methodologies to measure and reduce the environmental footprint of yachts.
SEA Index Certification: A Benchmark for Superyacht Sustainability
SEA Index's CO₂ emission reduction certification program is based on International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards, including EEDI and EEXI, adapted for superyachts over 24 meters.
One of SEA Index’s distinctive elements is its independent verification system. Yachts that achieve a 3-star certification or higher are invited to join the SEA Index network, benefiting from exclusive advantages, such as priority berthing at selected ports and marinas.
The initiative aims to guide superyacht owners toward more energy-efficient yachting, providing them with reliable information for more informed decisions and promoting eco-responsible practices within the industry. SEA Index strives to create a true ecosystem of stakeholders, encouraging the development of new sustainable solutions.
IBC Shipyard: A Step Forward for Sustainable Yachting
“For IBC Shipyard, joining SEA Index is a natural step in our commitment to environmental care and excellence in the luxury yachting industry,” said Alice Caslini, Marketing and Social Responsibility Director of IB Náutica Group, which includes IBC Shipyard.
“We firmly believe that the future of luxury yachting must align with sustainability principles, and SEA Index provides us with a platform to actively contribute to this cause.”
By affiliating with SEA Index, IBC Shipyard will gain access to tools and resources to measure and enhance its environmental performance while integrating into a global network of leading companies in the transition toward a more sustainable future.
This recognition further strengthens IBC Shipyard’s position as a strategic partner for yacht owners and captains, promoting a sustainable philosophy and conveying this commitment to all its clients.
