Before the start of the daily activities at Seaquip, the trade fair dedicated to marine equipment and supplies held last week at Fiera Milano in Rho, several professionals from the sector met for an informal gathering organised by Smart Interiors Horizon (SIH) in collaboration with Prodital Leather and Young Professionals in Yachting (YPY) Italy.

The initiative took place on 6 March at the Milan-based design studio Spazio MM and brought together designers, suppliers, experts and operators involved in sustainability issues related to yacht interiors.

The meeting was part of the SIH programme of activities during Seaquip Milano 2026, which also included a panel organised later the same day as part of the “Redefining Luxury” series of discussions.

A platform for dialogue across the supply chain

Smart Interiors Horizon is an initiative developed within the Water Revolution Foundation – an international non-profit organisation in the superyacht sector that promotes environmental sustainability in yachting – with the aim of encouraging more sustainable practices in the design and production of yacht interiors.

The project is based on a collaborative approach across the entire supply chain: designers, shipyards, material suppliers and industry specialists are involved in a shared path aimed at identifying practical ways to integrate sustainability into yacht interiors.

The breakfast organised in Milan reflected this spirit of collaboration. Participants had the opportunity to discuss the challenges related to the selection of sustainable materials and to exchange ideas ahead of the panel scheduled later in the day.

The discussion continues at SEAQUIP

The meeting also served as a preparatory moment for the panel organised by SIH during SEAQUIP Milano, titled “From ambition to implementation: how Italian excellence is shaping the path toward responsible interiors.”

The discussion addressed how ambitions related to sustainability can be translated into operational practices in the design of yacht interiors, with particular attention to the choice of materials, production processes and the shared responsibilities along the supply chain.

Although held in an informal setting, the initiative highlighted the growing interest within the nautical sector in an approach that connects design quality, craftsmanship and environmental responsibility.

Events of this kind also encourage the exchange of experiences among industry professionals outside the more structured context of conferences, helping to strengthen collaborative initiatives such as Smart Interiors Horizon.
