The SEA Index programme expands its partner network with the entry of Nanni among its “allies”, as part of a process aimed at structuring the environmental transition in the superyacht segment.

The announcement, released on 26 March in Monaco, confirms the growing role of SEA Index as a benchmark for measuring and certifying the environmental performance of large yachts. Developed by the Yacht Club de Monaco, the system is based on scientific criteria and independent verification, and aims to support the sector’s evolution from an analytical approach to an operational one.

Within this framework, Nanni’s entry brings expertise related to propulsion and onboard energy systems. The stated objective is to contribute concretely to reducing environmental impact through technological solutions already available and applied in real projects.

The company’s contribution focuses on an integrated set of solutions – from hybrid propulsion to generators and energy storage systems – designed to improve overall vessel efficiency and reduce emissions.

These are complemented by specific technologies such as dual-fuel systems based on methanol and HVO, onboard noise reduction devices, and batteries with intelligent energy management, capable of optimising flows between production, storage and consumption according to operating conditions.

According to the statement, these solutions have already been implemented in practical applications, including the Life Mystic project developed with Sanlorenzo. In addition, SEA Index has certified the emissions of the 50-metre steel superyacht Sanlorenzo Almax, equipped with a methanol reformer, assigning it a three-star rating.

The collaboration was also presented during the 30th edition of the Captains’ Forum, held on 24 March as part of the “Monaco, Capital of Advanced Yachting” initiative. On this occasion, discussions focused on the real impact of onboard systems, available technologies for emission reduction, and the role of certification in operational and investment decisions.

Founded in 2020, SEA Index is now present in 23 ports and marinas worldwide and positions itself as a reference tool to support the sector’s transition towards more sustainable models. Nanni’s entry confirms a trend involving the entire supply chain: not only shipyards and designers, but also system and component manufacturers are increasingly required to contribute directly to reducing environmental impact.

For Nanni, active since 1952 in the production of marine engines and generators with facilities in France and Italy, participation in the programme represents an extension of its research and development activities focused on more efficient and lower-impact propulsion systems.

Overall, the agreement highlights a clear shift in the sector: sustainability is no longer a separate domain, but an element that spans design, components and operational management, requiring increasingly close integration between technology and performance metrics.
