Zero Emission Mild Hybrid System at the Electric & Hybrid Expo Europe Show
From Mase Generators a totally new approach thanks to hybrid generators that can be combined with electric propulsion systems Mase Generators is launching an absolute preview of its new range of hybrid generators that can be combined with electric propulsion systems to meet market demands in terms of:
• hotel power supply in zero emission mode, by lithium batteries connected directly to the generator, which allows you to use the on-board services in total silence thanks to the battery packs linked to the generator;
• electric propulsion with generator acting as range extender which allows electric navigation with a range comparable to the one of traditional systems.
Mase Generators has entered into an important partnership agreement with Huracan Marine (manufacturer of electric propulsion motors) and Lanatec (a company operating in the design and production of lithium batteries) to offer the market its own system called Zero Emission-Mild Hybrid System: a “plug and play” package designed for displacement and sailing boats.
The plant is mainly designed for displacement and sailing boats with a propulsion power of up to 50 kW per shaft line. The system developed by Mase Generators and its partners is a functional and innovative way to ensure complete independence in navigation in a sustainable way.
In fact, the boat will be powered by a hybrid system, i.e. one which has electrical and other internal combustion components, thus ensuring total freedom and usability in any condition, guaranteeing independence in navigation thanks to the endothermic “range extender” which will allow for autonomy comparable to that of a traditional boat.
The Zero Emission-Mild Hybrid System represents a pioneering uniqueness in the world of displacement boats, because it is the first ever to have all the elements included within a single system.
The generator is combined with a modular power lithium battery pack which will allow the system to be used essentially in two ways:
Endothermic: the internal combustion running engine powers the inverter, which in turn powers the onboard services such as air conditioning, entertainment, hot water production, etc., the so-called hotel services. Zero emissions: here the lithium batteries power the inverter inside the generator set, which in turn supplies energy to the hotel.
The simple scheme also hides an excellent flexibility as regards the design and sizing according to the specific needs of the customer, shipyard or owner. The elements being worked on are all adaptable in order to increase efficiency and reduce the need in terms of space required for installation:
• a hybrid variable speed generator set with built-in inverter;
• an electric motor with power up to 50 kW for shaft line and sail drive system complete with control inverter and levers and navigation data reading display;
• a lithium battery pack with adjustable power.
The world premiere of Mase’s new system is expected at the Electric & Hybrid Marine Expo Europe, which will take place at the RAI exhibition center in Amsterdam from 20 to 22 June 2023.
